Ohio University তে মাস্টার্স শুরু করার পর ১ম সেমিস্টারের যখন ক্লাশের সিলেবাস গুলো দেখলাম, তখন কিছু ভ্রু-কুঁচকে গিয়েছিল আমার। যদিও বেশ আইডিয়া ছিল এখানকার পড়াশুনা বা পরীক্ষা নিয়ে এখানে থাকা কাজিনদের সাথে কথা বলার সুবাদে কিন্তু নিজে ফেস করে বুঝলাম সব কিছু বেশ খানিকটা অন্যরকম। আরো একটা কারণে এডাপ্ট করতে খুব একটা সমস্যা হয়নি, কারণ আমার আন্ডারগ্রেড আর মাস্টার্সের পড়াশুনা ও পরীক্ষাতে এমন কিছু কম্পোনেন্ট ছিল।
যা হোক, আসল কোথায় আসি। প্রথম কথা হলো এখানে কোর্স গুলোর সম্পূর্ণ সিলেবাস ম্যাটেরিয়ালস সহ অনলাইনে দেয়া থাকে যে দেখে পুরো সেমিস্টারের প্ল্যান করার সুযোগ থাকে। তো, আমি খুজছিলাম কোন কোর্সে কি কি আছে আর পরীক্ষার জন্য কি পড়তে হবে। এসাইনমেন্ট, গ্রুপ ওয়ার্ক, প্রেজেন্টেশন সব পেলাম কিন্তু ঝামেলায় পড়লাম মিড আর ফাইনাল পরীক্ষায় কি নিবে সেটি দেখে। আমাদের মত ক্লাসে বসে মুখস্ত করে খাতায় লেখার পরীক্ষা নেই এখানে! রিয়েলি? শুরুতে বিশ্বাস হলোনা। কিন্তু দেখলাম যে মিড টার্ম এ কাজ হল একটা পেপার/এসাইন্মেন্ট সাবমিট করা আর ফাইনালে বেশী ওয়ার্ডের একটা এসাইন্মেন্ট/ফুল পেপার দেয়া! মুখস্ত না কিন্তু, আপনি শুরু থেকেই জানবেন যে আপনাকে পেপার দিতে হবে। সেভাবে আপনি প্ল্যান করবেন, নিজের মত করে গোছানো শুরু করবেন আর সময় মত সাবমিট করবেন।
এবার আসি প্লেজারিজম চেকের বিষয়ে। আমাদের করা প্রতিটা সাবমিশন একটা সফটওয়্যার দিয়ে চেক করা হয়। যে ব্ল্যাকবোর্ডে সাবমিট করি, সেখানেই অটো দেয়া আছে আর সাবমিট করার পর দেখা যায় কত পার্সেন্ট কোন সোর্স থেকে নেয়া! কপি পেস্ট করে যদি একটা লাইন ও দিয়ে দেন, তাহলে হইসে! সরাসরি দেখাবে যে এটি কোন সোর্স থেকে কপি করা আর লিংক সহ দিয়ে দিবে। ভালো ভাবে রেফারেন্সিং করতে হয় প্রতিটা লেখা, সেটা ৫০০ ওয়ার্ডের হলেও। যদি কেউ ১৫% এর বেশি কপি করে, তাহলে বিপদ শুরু। আর প্লেজারিজমের সবচেয়ে খারাপ শাস্তি হলো ভার্সিটি থেকে বের করে দিবে এক নোটিশে! মনে পড়ে, ঢাবির অনার্স আর মাস্টার্সে সাবমিশন গুলোর কথা! তুলনায় যাচ্ছিনা তবে শুধুমাত্র ভালো করে রেফারেন্সিং টা শিখলেও এ যাত্রায় এতটা কষ্ট হতোনা! যাই হোক, এ ব্যপারে কোন ছাড় নেই তাই খেটে খুঁটেই প্রতিটা সাবমিশন করতে হয়।
এখানে মুখস্ত করার কিছু নেই কারণ কোন কিছুতেই মুখস্ত বিদ্যার কাজ নেই। যে কাজটা আমরা ক্লাশ ওয়ান থেকে মাস্টার্স পর্যন্ত করে আসি, সে সিস্টেম টাই নেই এখানে। এটা আমাদের জন্য প্রথম ধাক্কা। কিছু মানুষজনের সাথে শুরুতে কথা হয়েছিল দেশে যারা বিশ্বাসই করেনা যে মুখস্ত না করে কেমনে কি! পরীক্ষা কেমনে নেয়! উপরেই বলেছি সেটা। এদের পড়াশুনার টার্গেট হল যা পড়ছি, তা বুঝতে পারছি কিনা, আর যা বুঝছি তা লিখে প্রকাশ করতে পারছি কিনা! সিম্পল, তাই এদের ক্লাসে রেসপন্স ও অনেক ভালো যেহেতু সব কিছু বুঝেই শিখতে হয়। ক্লাশ বা টিচিং মেথড নিয়ে আরেকদিন না হয় লিখা যাবে! মোদ্দা কথা হল, মুখস্ত করে সারাজীবন খুব ভালো রেজাল্ট করে আসা ও যে কেউ শুরুতে একটু হোঁচট খায় এ সিস্টেমের কারণে!

- রিসার্চ পেপার সাবমিশন
- কুইজ
- সেমিনারে অংশগ্রহণ

- কোন প্রজেক্ট ডেভেলপ করা ইত্যাদি
উচ্চ-শিক্ষা প্রত্যাশীরা এসব ধরণের পরীক্ষার জন্য যেভাবে নিজেদের প্রস্তুত করতে পারেঃ
– রাইটিং স্কিল ডেভেলপ করার চেষ্টা করা
– এখানে বেশি থাকে Synthesis Essay অর্থাৎ কয়েকজন রাইটারের আর্গুমেন্ট গুলো প্রেজেন্ট করে নিজের পয়েন্ট টা তুলে ধরতে হয়
– রেফারেন্সিং- সবচেয়ে জরুরী জিনিস। নাহলে প্লেজারিজমের দায়ে ভার্সিটি বা দেশ থেকে বের করে দিতে পারে (একদিন এটা নিয়ে বিস্তারিত লিখবো)
– যেহেতু এখানে মুখস্ত কোন পরীক্ষা নেই, তাই যত ম্যাটেরিয়ালস পড়া হয়, সব গুলো বুঝতে ও চিন্তা করতে পারার চেষ্টা করা
পরিশেষে, আমি জাস্ট একটা ধারনা দেয়ার চেষ্টা করলাম। কোন সিস্টেমকে বড় বা ছোট করে দেখানো উদ্দেশ্য না কিন্তু আমার মনে হয় ভালো করে জেনে আসলে এখানে এসে ধরতে সহজ হবে কিছুটা। না জানলে ও এখানে এসে শিখে নেয়া যায়।
বিঃদ্রঃ- এ লিখা গুলোয় আমি একান্তই আমার অভিজ্ঞতা তুলে ধরছি। বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় বা ডিপার্টমেন্ট ভেদে অন্যদের অভিজ্ঞতা ভিন্ন হতে পারে।
পরিশেষে, আমি জাস্ট একটা ধারনা দেয়ার চেষ্টা করলাম। কোন সিস্টেমকে বড় বা ছোট করে দেখানো উদ্দেশ্য না কিন্তু আমার মনে হয় ভালো করে জেনে আসলে এখানে এসে ধরতে সহজ হবে কিছুটা। যত বেশি পারা যায় রাইটিং স্কিলে ফোকাস করা উচিত।
