সাব্জেক্ট সুইচ করলে SOP তে কিভাবে ইন্টারেস্ট ফুটিয়ে তোলা যায় (আমার SOP স্যাম্পল সহ)

আমরা অনেকেই এক সাব্জেক্টে অনার্স করে অন্য সাব্জেক্টে মাস্টার্স করতে বিদেশে আসতে চাই। আমি নিজেও অনার্স করেছি ডেভেলপমেন্ট স্টাডিজ এ আর মাস্টার্স করছি পলিটিক্যাল সাইন্সে। দুইটাই স্যোসাল সাইন্সের সাব্জেক্ট হলেও ফোকাস বেশ আলাদা। যেহেতু এ ইস্যুটা নিয়ে অনেকেই জানার আগ্রহ প্রকাশ করেছেন, সেহেতু, আজকে আমার নিজের অভিজ্ঞতা থেকে লিখবো এ সাব্জেক্ট চেঞ্জ এর ক্ষেত্রে এপ্লিকেশন প্যাকেজে কোন বিষয়ে কিভাবে উপস্থাপন করেছি। বিশেষ করে, স্ট্যাটমেন্ট অব পারপাসে যেভাবে এ দুই বিষয়কে লিংক করেছি, সেটা নিয়ে আলাপ করবো। 

শুরুতেই বলে নেই, যেহেতু আমি স্যোসাল সাইন্স থেকে আবার স্যোসাল সাইন্সের সাব্জেক্টে এসেছি, তাই আমার জার্নিটা যারা পুরা স্ট্রিম পরিবর্তন করে যেমন আর্টস টু স্যোসাল সাইন্স বা বিজনেস টু স্টেমে মুভ করেছেন তাদের থেকে আলাদা। তেমন কারো অভিজ্ঞতা নিয়ে একটা সেশন প্ল্যান করছি ইনশাআল্লাহ। আজকে যারা একই স্ট্রিমে সুইচ করবেন, তাদের আলোচনা হবে। ডেভেলপমেন্ট স্টাডিজ বাংলাদেশে তুলনামূলকভাবে নতুন সাব্জেক্ট আর ফোকাস করে একটা দেশের উন্নয়নের উপর। বিশেষ করে নন-প্রফিট বা নন-গভমেন্ট স্টেকহোল্ডাররা কিভাবে উন্নয়নে অংশগ্রহণ করতে পারে সে বিষয়ে বিশেষ জ্ঞান প্রদান করে। আর পলিটিক্যাল সাইন্স হলো আদি সাব্জেক্ট গুলোর একটি। যেটির পদচারণা রাজনীতির মত বিশাল ব্যপার নিয়ে। আমরা অনার্সে পলিটক্যাল সাইন্সের ২/১ টা কোর কোর্স পড়েছি যেহেতু বেশিরভাগ কোর্স ছিল অর্থনীতি ও পাব্লিক এডমিনিস্ট্রেশন এর উপরে। এছাড়া ও ছিল ভ্যারাইটি সাব্জেক্ট আর তাই নিজেদেরকে বলতাম ‘জ্যাক  অব অল ট্রেইটস, মাস্টার অব নান’। 

যাক, আসল আলোচনায় আসি। আমি যখন সিদ্ধান্ত নিলাম যে পলিটিক্যাল সাইন্সে মাস্টার্স করবো, তখন ভাবা শুরু করলাম যে কিভাবে এটাকে লিংক করবো আমার অনার্স, কাজের অভিজ্ঞতা সহ বাকী কিছুর সাথে। আমাকে তো প্রুফ কর‍তে হবে যে খালি খালি এ জাম্পটা করতেসিনা বরং এসব কারণে সে সাব্জেক্টে যেতে চাই এবং এ সাব্জেক্টে না পড়লে জীবন পুরাই বৃথা! তাই, SOP তে কানেক্ট করার চেষ্টা করলাম এভাবে যে ‘আমি উন্নয়ন নিয়ে পড়াশুনা করসি কিন্তু দেখলাম উন্নয়নের বিশাল একটা অংশ নির্ভর করে পলিটিক্যাল সিদ্ধান্তের উপর, যে ব্যপারে আমি জানিনা কিন্তু জানতে চাই’! এ পয়েন্ট দিয়ে শুরু করলাম। ডেভেলপমেন্ট নিয়ে পড়তে পড়তে কিভাবে পলিটিক্যাল সাইন্স নিয়ে আগ্রহ জন্মালো, সেটা শুরুতে দিয়েছি এভাবে- “Therefore, my interest in political science started to grow keener. Eventually, Courses ofpolitical science and public administration stream were of more interest to me and I received good grades in those courses. I tried to understand if some policies are more politically benefitting while others are not.” 

এরপর লিংক করলাম আমার প্রফেশনাল এক্সপেরিয়েন্স থেকে আমি কি কি জানছি আর সেগুলা আমাকে কিভাবে এ সাব্জেক্টে পড়তে যেতে উৎসাহিত করলো? মূল টেক্সট দেখুন এখানে-“In my current profession at The Asia Foundation while working on ensuring good governance and the need for policy intervention to establish labor rights and safety in the tannery sector of Bangladesh, I found that the policy level outcome of this project is also highly dependent on politics.” এর আগের এক্সপেরিয়েন্স গুলোর সাথেও রিলেট করেছিলাম। 

তারপর নিজের প্রশ্ন বা জিজ্ঞাসা গুলো কি সেটা বলে বুঝালাম যে আমি দুনিয়ার অনেক কিছু বুঝলেও কিছু জিনিস বুঝিনি আর সেটা বুঝতে হলে পলিটিক্যাল সাইন্সে একটা ডিগ্রী প্রয়োজন হবে। 

“I wonder why policy focus varies to different political parties, why ‘development’ becomes more of a political question, commitment, and rhetoric in Bangladesh. I also want to explore how the developed countries have succeeded to blend political will with the sustainable development policies, and what happens if countries do otherwise. I think doing Master’s in Political Science can enable me to explain these questions and lead me to explore deeper answers.” 

ব্যাস, আমার ইন্টারেস্ট দেখানো হয়ে গেলো একাডমিক আর প্র্যাকটিক্যাল এক্সপেরিএয়েন্স এর সাথে রিলেট করে। তারা বুঝে নিলো যে আমি রাজনীতি নিয়ে জানতে চাই আর এটাই এখন আমার জীবনের একমাত্র লক্ষ্য ও উদ্দেশ্য। স্ট্যাটমেন্ট কেমন ভালো হয়েছিল জানিনা তবে ফান্ডেড এডমিশন হয়েছে আর মাস্টার্স ও শেষ করে ফেলেছি। আমার ব্যক্তিগত মতামত হলো সাবজেক্ট চেঞ্জের ক্ষেত্রে স্ট্যাটমেন্ট খুব ক্রিটিকাল ভূমিকা রাখে। ঠিকভাবে নিজের ইন্টারেস্ট ফুটিয়ে তুলতে পারলেই কেল্লাফতে। আজ এ পর্যন্তই। হ্যাপি এসওপি রাইটিং!
