আমাদের প্যারেন্টস বা ফ্যামিলি গুলার এখনো বদ্ধমূল ধারণা হলো ছেলে-মেয়েকে সাইন্সে পড়াতে হবে, না পারলে অন্তত কমার্সে কিন্তু কোনভাবেই আর্টসে পড়ানো যাবেনা কারণ, স্কুলে আর্টসে দেয় সবচেয়ে দূর্বল স্টুডেন্ট দের। ক্লাশ নাইনে একটা যুদ্ধ শুরু হয় কোন ভাবে বাচ্চাকে সাইন্স দেয়ার জন্য। স্কুল টিচারদের ধর্না দেয়া, দরকার হলে স্কুল পালটিয়ে নতুন স্কুলে সাইন্সে পড়াবে, তাও অন্য কোন বিভাগে দিবেনা। কারণ, এটা প্রেস্টিজের সাথে সম্পর্কিত। কারো সাথে দেখা হলেই জিজ্ঞেস করবে ভাবী, ছেলেকে কিসে দিলেন, আর ভাবী চোখ জ্বলজ্বল করে সিনা উচিয়ে বলতে পারবে ‘সাইন্সে’! দেখার দরকার পড়েনা ছেলে/মেয়েটা ম্যাথ পছন্দ করে কিনা, জিজ্ঞেস করার দরকার হয়না কি করতে ভালো লাগে বা কিসে মজা পাও। মনে করে এ আর কি বুঝবে! আমার ডাক্তার/ইঞ্জিনিয়ারই চাই।
সে থেকে শুরু হয় আমাদের পরিবারের ক্যারিয়ার ভাবনা। ছেলে বা মেয়ে এটাই হবে। অনেকে তো জন্মের আগের নিয়ত করে বসে যে এবার ছেলে হলে এটা আর মেয়ে হলে এটা বানাবো। বাবা-মায়ের স্বপ্ন থাকা খারাপ কিছু না কিন্তু সন্তানের নিজের পড়াশুনা বা ক্যারিয়ার নিয়ে কিছু বলার কোন সুযোগই থাকেনা। ফিজিক্স, ম্যাথ বা কেমিস্ট্রি না বুঝলে ১০ টা টিচারের কাছে পড়াবে কিন্তু তাকে কিছু একটা বানিয়েই ছাড়বে। কিন্তু হয়তো ছেলেটা অন্য কিছু পড়তে বা হতে চেয়েছিল, নিজের ক্যারিয়ার নিয়ে ভিন্ন প্ল্যান ছিল, সাইন্স পড়তে পছন্দ করতো না বা ভালো লাগাটা অন্য কোন সাব্জেক্টে ছিল।
এ একই ব্যপার বজায় থাকে ভার্সিটি ভর্তি পরীক্ষার সময়। ফ্যামিলির পছন্দে মেডিকেল, বুয়েট হতে হয়। আবার সে প্রেস্টিজ ইস্যু। কোথায় টিকলো প্রশ্নের ভালো জ্ববাব লাগবে। তারপর অনার্স মাস্টার্স শেষ করে ছেলে/মেয়ে কি করছে সেটার জন্য ও প্রেস্টিজ ম্যাটার। খালি ডাক্তার হলে হবেনা, বিসিএস ক্যাডার ডাক্তার হতে হবে। সরকারী না হলে কি হয়! এ পুরা প্রসেসে সবচেয়ে বড় উপাদানটা হলো সামাজিক স্ট্যাটাস। আমি বলছিনা বাবা-মায়ের পছন্দ থাকবে না বা টার্গেট থাকবে না, আমার পয়েন্টটা হলো বাচ্চা কাল থেকে কেন আমাদেরকে বিভাগ, ডিপার্টমেন্ট বা ক্যারিয়ার ট্র্যাক পছন্দ করতে দেয়া হয়না? ক্লাশ নাইন আর মাস্টার্স পাশ, সবারই সে একই অবস্থা। তাই অনেককে বলতে শুনি যে ভাই, ফ্যামিলির প্রেশারের জন্য ৩ বছর ধরে সরকারি চাকুরীর পেছনে ঘুরছি। আমার এক সিনিয়র ভাইকে চিনি যার পছন্দের ক্যারিয়ার থেকে জোর করে/ থ্রেট করে এনে পুলিশ ক্যাডার বানিয়েছে ওনার বাবা। অদ্ভুত লাগে মাঝে মাঝে এটা ভেবে যে শিক্ষিত পরিবার গুলোতে ও এগুলা হারহামেশা ঘটে।
আমি এ পরিস্থিতিতে একদম পড়িনি বলা যাবেনা কিন্তু পিছলিয়ে গিয়েছি। বাবা যা চেয়েছিল তা পছন্দ হয়নি বলে সেদিকে পা বাড়ায়নি। সে গল্প আরেকদিন হবে। আমার জাস্ট একটা আত্ম-জিজ্ঞাসা- আমাদের জেনারেশন ও বাবা হচ্ছি, আমরা ও কি সেইম প্র্যাক্টিস চালাবো সন্তানদের উপর? নাকি আমরা ও এদের স্বপ্ন পূরণের মেশিন হিসেবেই দেখবো?
