ঢাকা টু নিউ-ইয়র্কঃ একটি স্বপ্ন পানে যাত্রা (শেষ পর্ব)

ইস্তাম্বুল থেকে নিউইয়র্ক গামী ফ্লাইটটি ছুটে চলছিলো হাজার হাজার মাইল উপর দিয়ে। সিটের সাথে লাগানো স্ক্রিনে কোন দেশ/জায়গার উপর দিয়ে যাচ্ছি, সেটা দেখা যায়। মুভি দেখার ফাকে মাঝে মাঝে দেখছিলাম কই আছি। নিচের এরিয়া বিভিন্ন কালার দিয়ে ইন্ডিকেট করা থাকে, যেমন পানির জন্য নীল একটা কালার আবার বন-জংগলের জন্য সবুজ। লম্বা পথ পাড়ি দিয়ে এবার চলছি আটলান্টিক মহাসাগরের উপরে। এরপর অনেক্ষণ এ পানির উপর দিয়েই চললো বিশাল যাত্রীবাহী এ বিমান। আটলান্টিক বলে কথা! 

এ ফ্লাইট ও ১০ ঘন্টার মত। শেষের দিকে এসে পা ব্যথা শুরু হলো। এত লম্বা জার্নি কখনো করিনি। তার উপর ট্রানজিট ছিল দৌড়ের মধ্যে। সব মিলিয়ে মনে হচ্ছিলো এক অনন্ত যাত্রা। যারা নাক ডেকে ঘুমাচ্ছিল, তাদের দেখে কিঞ্চিৎ ইর্ষা হচ্ছিল এ ভেবে যে, ওনাদের এ পেইন নেই। হয়তো, ল্যান্ড করার একটু আগে পাইলটের কথার শব্দে অথবা ল্যান্ডের পর পাশের যাত্রীর ‘এক্সকিউজ মি’ শব্দে ঘুম ভাংবে। আর আমি এ এত লম্বা যাত্রায় ২/১ ঘন্টা ও ঘুমিয়েছি কিনা শিউর না।  

আমাদের বিমান যখন নিউইয়র্কের জন এফ কেনেডি এয়ারপোর্টের উপরে ল্যান্ড করার জন্য চক্কর খাচ্ছিল, তখন প্রায় সবাই জেগে উঠেছে। অনেকে আড়মোড়া ভাংছেন, কেউ আবার ঘুম ঘুম চোখেই সিট বেল্ট পড়ছেন, আবার কেউ গুছিয়ে নিচ্ছেন নিজেদের হাতের পাশের সব কিছু। যেহেতু জানালার পাশে বসতে পারিনি, তাই নিচে দেখতে পারছিলাম না। তবে আশার কথা হচ্ছে আমরা পৌছে গেছি এ লম্বা যাত্রা শেষে। এখন শুধু ঠিক ঠাক এয়ারপোর্ট থেকে বের হতে পারলেই হয়। ইমিগ্রেশনে ঝামেলা নিয়ে কত গল্প শুনেছি, সেগুলা মাথার ভেতরে ঘুরপাক খাচ্ছিল এয়ারপোর্টে নামার পর। 

খুশিমনে নেমে অন্য যাত্রীদের সাথে হাটা শুরু করলাম ইমিগ্রেশন এর দিকে। বেশ খানিক্ষণ হেটে যখন ইমিগ্রেশনের লাইনটা চোখে পড়লো, তখন আর খুশিটা থাকলো না। ইয়ে বড় একটা লাইন সাপের মত পেচিয়ে আছে। পুরা ঢেউ খেলানো। কয়েক শত মানুষ আমাদের সামনে লাইনে দাড়ানো। কিছু তো করার নেই আর না দাঁড়িয়ে৷ আমরা ও দেরী না করে দাঁড়িয়ে গেলাম লাইনে। আমাদের টায়ার্ড লাগছিল প্রচুর আর দেখলাম বেশ কিছু বুথ বন্ধ আছে। বুঝলাম যে ২/৩ ঘন্টা লাগবে এ ঝক্কি ঝামেলা শেষ করতে।

লাইন পেড়িয়ে যখন কাছাকাছি আসলাম তখন কাছ থেকে বুঝার চেষ্টা করছিলাম যে কি জিজ্ঞেস করে বা কাওকে আটকায় কিনা। ফল সেশনে যেহেতু অনেক স্টুডেন্ট আসে, তাদের অনেককেই বিভিন্ন প্রশ্ন করে শুনেছি। আর ঝামেলার  কিছু মনে হলে আলাদা রুমে পাঠিয়ে কথা বলে। একটা রেড লাইট থাকে ইমিগ্রেশন অফিসারের ওখানে। কোন কিছু না মিললে বা সন্দেহ হলে সে লাইট জ্বলে আর তাদেরকে ভেতরে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়। বুক ধরপর করছিল কিছুটা যাহেতু অনেক গল্প শুনে এসেছি ইমিগ্রেশনের ঝামেলার।  

এ সব শুনা কথাকে সত্যি প্রমান করতেই যেন অল্প সময়ের ব্যবধানে ২ জন অফিসার লাল লাইট জ্বালালো আর কিছুক্ষনের মধ্যে সে দু’জন যাত্রীকে ভেতরে নিয়ে যাওয়া হলো। পালস বাড়া শুরু করলো আর ও বেশি। মানুষ তাও একা আসে, আমি নিয়ে এসেছি পার্টনারকে ও। যাই হোক, এর মধ্যে ২/১ টা নতুন বুথে ও ইমিগ্রেশন এর কাজ শুরু হয়েছে। লম্বা লাইনে দাঁড়ানো বাকী সব ক্লান্ত মানু্ষ গুলা হাততালি দিয়ে আনন্দ প্রকাশ করলো যেহেতু এবার প্রসেস আরেকটু দ্রুত হবে। খুব কাছাকাছি সিরিয়াল আসার পর ভাবছিলাম কোন ইমিগ্রেশন অফিসার আমাদের কপালে আছে। সবশেষ যুক্ত হওয়া একজন অফিসার এশিয়ান (বাংলাদেশি/ভারতীয় হতে পারে) ছিল। ভাবলাম, যেখানেই যাই, না আটকালেই হলো। আমরা গেলাম একজন হিস্পানিক ভদ্রলোকের কাছে (খুব সম্ভবত মেক্সিকান বংশোদ্ভূত)। 

তিনি খুব রিলাক্স মুডে ছিলেন। চিপ্স চিবোচ্ছিলেন আর আমাদের হাল্কা মুডে ২/৪ টা প্রশ্ন করলেন। কেন আসছি, কই যাবো, এখানে থাকার এড্রেস কি ইত্যাদি। I20 দেখতে চাইলো। তারপর বললো, ওয়েল্কাম। যাক, এতক্ষনে হাপ ছেড়ে বাচলাম যে শেষ পর্যন্ত পৌছালাম নিউইয়র্ক। বের হয়ে লাগেজের চিন্তা মাথায় আসলো। এ ব্যপারে ও অনেক গল্প শুনেছি। মিসিং হয়, কেটে সব বের করে চেক করে, আরো কি সব। একটু খুজতেই দেখলাম বেল্ট থেকে নামিয়ে সুন্দর করে সব লাগেজ একজায়গায় রেখে দেয়া হয়েছে। যেহেতু অনেক লম্বা লাইনে ছিলাম, স্বভাবতই এতক্ষন বেল্টে ঘুরার কথা না। যাক, বেশ ভাল লাগলো গোছানো লাগেজ পেয়ে। 

এখন এগুলোকে টেনে এয়ারপোর্টের বাইরে নিতে হবে। কাজিন আসছে রিসিভ করতে। ২ টা টেনশন। ১. এ লাগেজ গুলো নিয়ে যাওয়া ২. কাজিনরে খুজে বের করা মোবাইল ছাড়া। প্রথম ঝামেলা মেটাতে দেখলাম কার্ট আছে একটু দূরে। বেশ ভালো ভাবে গিয়ে ধরলাম একটা কার্ট, দেখি লক করা আর একজন এসে বললো যে তুমি নিতে পারবা কিন্তু ডলার খরচ করতে হবে! একটু বেকুব হলাম যেহেতু আরো যে ২/৩ দেশে গিয়েছি, সেখানে ও আমাদের দেশের মত ফ্রি কার্ট ছিল। বুঝলাম ক্যাপিটালিজম এর আস্তানায় চলে এসেছি। নাথিং ইজ ফ্রি। আমি ও কম যাইনা। কার্ট না নিয়ে লাগেজ গুলারে সিস্টেমে নিয়ে হাটা শুরু করলাম। বেশিক্ষণ লাগেনি টার্মিনাল পার হতে আর বের হয়ে দেখি নিশা দূর থেকে দাড়িয়ে হাত নাড়ছে। অবশেষে, একটা বড় শান্তির নিঃশ্বাস বের হয়ে এলো। ৩ জনে ধরাধরি করে গাড়ীতে লাগেজ উঠিয়ে রওনা দিলাম ব্রুকলেনে মামার বাসার উদ্দেশ্যে। এতটাই ক্লান্ত ছিলাম যে গাড়ীতে নিশার সাথে কিছুক্ষণ কথা বলে কখন চোখ বন্ধ করে ঘুমিয়ে পড়েছি খেয়ালই নেই।
