-এখানে ইন্ডিভিজুয়ালিজমে বিশ্বাসী সবাই। বিশেষ করে যদি আপনার এরিয়ায় শুধু আমেরিকান বা অন্য দেশীরা থাকে। সবার সাথে হাই-হ্যালো পর্যন্তই। আমরা সামনের ফ্ল্যাটে একজন আমেরিকান ভদ্রমহিলা থাকেন যার সাথে দেড় বছরে কথা হয়েছে দেড়টা! আই মিন, যদি দেখা হয় হাই, আর নাহলে কোন প্রয়োজনে। অদ্ভুত না? অথচ বাড্ডার বাসার প্রতিবেশীরা ৬ মাসের পরিচয়ে এখনো ফোন দেয়! এ সামাজিক ডিফারেন্স টা খুব পীড়া দেয়।
– খাবার নিয়ে আমাদের মত এলাকা গুলায় ঝামেলা আছে। এক ওয়ালমার্টে কিছু ফিক্সড সবজি আর মাছ ছাড়া অল্টারনেটিভ নেই। দেড় ঘন্টা ড্রাইভ করলে কিছু ইন্ডিয়ান দোকানে আরো কিছু পাওয়া যায়। কিন্তু অনেক কিছুই মিসিং। গত সপ্তাহে শিকাগো থেকে কচুর লতি কিনে এনে চিংড়ি মাছ দিয়ে রান্না করেছে মুনা। কত দিন পর মনে হলো অমৃত খেলাম! এ পছন্দের অনেক খাবার না পেয়ে ভাল লাগেনা। কত কিছু যে মিস করি!
– নভেম্বর থেকে মার্চ পর্যন্ত বেশ কনকনের ঠান্ডা পড়ে। রেগুলার মাইনাস টেম্পারেচার। গত বছর প্রথম ঠান্ডায় পুরো সময়টা কেমন ঝিমিয়েছি। এক প্রফেসর বলতেন যে প্রথম বার খুব লিথার্জিক লাগবে, পরে সয়ে যাবে। এবার কিছুটা কম লাগলেও হাড় কাপিয়ে দিচ্ছে মাইনাস ৭-১০ তাপমাত্রা! হিটার চালায়া বাসায় বসে থাকা পেইন!
-সবশেষে একটা অনিশ্চয়তা মাথায় ঘুরতেই থাকে। এ পড়াশুনা শেষ করবো, তারপর কি? আরেকটা ডিগ্রী, না জব। দেশে ফিরে যাবো না এখানে? ক্যারিয়ার কোন দিকে যাবে! এ ধরণের ব্যপার গুলো সবার মাথায় ঘুরে। দেশে ২-৩ বছর বেকার বসে থাকলে ফ্যামিলি সাপোর্ট দেয়, এখানে? নিজেই নিজেকে সাপোর্ট দিতে হবে। আর্থিক টেনশনের কথা না হয় বাদই দিলাম।
যাক, আরো অনেক পয়েন্ট আছে। তবে লাইফ বেশ টাফ এখানে। সব নিজেকে গুছিয়ে করতে হবে। সব চাপ নিজের। যারা খুব সুখে থেকে জীবন কাটাতে চান (দেশের সরকারি চাকুরী খুজে আরামে/সিকিউরড লাইফ লিড করার চিন্তায় থাকেন) তারা আসার আগে ভেবে আসা উচিত। নাহলে, এসে এ মানসিক আর অন্য সব টানা পোড়নে পড়ে বেশ ঝামেলা হয়ে যাবে। তাই, সব দিক জানুন, বুঝুন, তারপর সিদ্ধান্ত নিন।।
